There are no difficulties, challenges, or obstacles in our yoga practice that will ever come close to some of the challenges we will face in our lives.
However, it is through our yoga practice—facing our fears and our egos again and again—that we can strengthen our will power, our determination, and ultimately our character so that we are better prepared to face tough situations with equanimity.
We learn that when things are difficult—and they will be—to just accept that they are hard and learn to persevere as opposed to avoidance or fighting against the difficulties. A posture might reveal a weakness or make us uncomfortable, but we try our best and stick with it. The posture is essentially the same posture, but it may seem easier over time as we develop both our physical and mental strength and flexibility.
Our yoga practice doesn’t make the tough situations in life easier. We will still have difficulties and challenges. But we will become better at handling those situations.
