Down Dog Posture

Sanskrit: Ahdo Mukha Svanasana
Pose Type: forward fold, inversion, arm balances.
Benefits: abdomen, ankles, arches, arms, brain, calves, foot, hamstrings, intestines, legs, lungs, shoulders, spine, wrists.

  1. Begin on hands and knees
  2. Hands directly beneath shoulders flat on the floor with the fingers spread open
  3. Feet separate hips width
  4. Keeping arms straight, lift knees off the ground pushing hips up and back
  5. Straight legs as far as they'll go
  6. Heels press down towards the floor- you will probably be on the balls of your feet, as you gain flexibility, your feet may flatten to the ground
  7. Drop head so that neck is in line with spine
